Chapter 6

While Callie was reveling in her soon to be wedded bliss, Jasper was less than 10 minutes away, his love also in his arms. But the difference between the two couples was astronomical. At 4am, Callie and Henry were long since and asleep, deep in bliss. Jasper and Trinity were also in bliss, but it was chemically introduced. Both leaned back in the club's VIP section, empty bottles littered around the table, as the harsh chemicals that they had injected into their arms flooded their senses. Jasper felt like he was floating, like his brain was on fire, and it was Trinity starting the blaze. He eyed her clumsily, his heart bursting with love as she slumped against his shoulder.

"I love you," he muttered, but it came out half slurred.

"Mmm," she nuzzled into his shoulder for a few more moments, before raising her head. "Again?"

He nodded, and she reached for the needle. The drugs had started about two weeks after their first date. Trinity was a professional at getting high, and it wasn't hard to convince Jasper to feel as good as she did. When he was high, he loved her so much more. Everything felt more real. He was a better actor, he was loser, and when he took her to bed, it was fireworks and explosions. He wanted nothing more than to spend this time with her, floating in a chemically induced heaven with her.

Somewhere, in the rare moments of sobriety, he knew that they had crossed a line. The dawn was always harsh, the light hitting his aching head and making him want to cleanse himself. But then the sun started sinking again, the night came and he fell into her pattern. He was on top of the world. The show was better than ever, Callie was happy with Henry, and he had finally found his one true love. He was getting rave reviews and he had never felt better.

And then, there were the days when things weren't so well. When he didn't just wake with a hangover, but from a nightmare. The nightmares were almost always the same. He was performing in the show, but it was terrifying, electrifying. He was always paralyzed with fear as paranormal activity took over the show; demons manifested in front of his eyes, dark and foreboding. They would point long fingers at him, staring at him with faceless eyes, and causing him to cry out in his sleep. Sometimes, the terror lasted so long that his heart skipped a beat when he entered the venues, his nightmares terrifying him even in daylight.

"Oh my God," Jasper groaned a second dose of liquid lightning hit his veins. His visions went spotty as he doubled over, the pleasure mixed with pain. The club around him faded away, and the only thing he was aware of was Trinity beside him. She was kissing him, swinging her long legs over his lap and darting her tongue in and out of his mouth. And he was in heaven, his hands running up and down her body and his need pushing through his pants.
