How to Get the Most Out of Your Memberships
Now that you have found some great groups to join to help with your networking, you can just sit back and enjoy, right? Wrong. To be successful at networking, you need to continue to work at it, and you will need to continue to work at your memberships and groups that you have joined. Here are some tips to help you stay in the loop and get the most out of your memberships:
1. Go – If you do not go to the meetings and invest your time, you will not become successful at networking with your new groups. Make sure you attend meetings, events, and any other special functions that your organization holds to keep your name and face in front of people.
2. Do – By staying involved in the organization, you will start to take on a leadership role in the eyes of others. Start small, by volunteering to lead groups or committees, and move up from there. The more that you do in an organization, the more people will know you and remember you.
3. Keep Up – No matter how many people you network with at your new organizations or groups, keep a notebook of information that you learn about them for your follow ups. Follow ups can be anything from a visit to a phone call to an email. When you follow up, make sure you add in something personal that you remembered when you spoke to them. This will let your contacts know that you really were listening to them, and that you are a real person, and not just a salesperson.
