It was five minutes till ten o'clock and I was almost done with breakfast for us. I heard a voice behind me sniffing in the delightful aroma.

Bennie said, “Something smells good.” I turned around to see a half awake smiling Bennie. I laughed.

“Yeah bro, everything just got done.” I said taking the last pancake out of the skillet. As I began fixing Cleo's plate a pair of hands wrapped around my waist. Smiling I turned around. My baby Cleopatra kissed my lips then she saw Bennie. She looked at me with that 'we'll talk about this later' look.

“Hey Benjamin Tyrone Jones.” I said smiling hitting him playfully.

“Shhhh. Girl don’t say my government name like that. I don’t know if the feds watching.” Bennie said looking around frantically as Messiah and I chuckled at him.

“What is your ugly butt doing here?” I asked sitting down at the table waiting for Messiah to pass me my breakfast plate. Bennie quickly looked at Messiah. Messiah quickly cleared his throat.

“Well bae, Bennie will be staying with us for a few weeks.”

“What’s a few weeks?” I asked looking at Bennie.

He didn’t even look up at me when he said, “I don’t know. Two, maybe three weeks.”

“A month at the most bae.” Messiah said.

“I don’t care how long he stays. I just wanted to know why you didn’t talk with me first before inviting Bennie in my house!” I said beating on the table.

“We need to talk in private now.” Messiah said calmly but his eyes spoke volumes as he began to get up from his chair leaving the half eaten plate on the table.

“No we can talk right here, right now!” I said getting up as fast as I could.

“Bae, you getting upset is going to hurt my baby.” Messiah said calmly.

“I don’t care Messiah. This isn’t just your house you know. Its mine too!” I said getting in his face.

“Cleo you should calm down. It’s not that serious. Messiah wanted me to help you around the house when he's at work.” Bennie said.

“I’m almost six months! It’s a little too late for that.” I said turning to Bennie.

“Besides bae, he's family.” Messiah said smiling then hugging me.

I removed his hands and pushed him away. “Your family, not mine.”

Chapter 19: The Talk PT 1

June 25, 2014. 11:00PM.

Cleo's Crib.

“Where you been?” I questioned my brother when he walked through the front door.

He looked sheepishly at me before replying. “At work.” Shaking my head I said, “You work at Subway Si. They close nine at night and its three minutes after eleven o'clock.” I said checking my watch.

His eyes were red as if he had been smoking or crying. He stayed quiet.

“Bro, you've been smoking?” I asked more than I knew. He still said nothing.

“Come here Si. It’s time for a brother to brother talk.” I said pointing to a seat on the couch so he could sit down. He sat down quietly.

“Cleopatra cried herself to sleep for the second night in a row. Y'all need to talk.
