I did a shoot with the CEO of The Coca Cola Company a few years back and blogged about the process and how great it was working with them and a story about working with Muhtar Kent. The marketing and PR folks at Coca Cola saw my blog post pop up on a Google news alert. They shared it company wide via their intraweb. My site went down from the traffic they sent. They loved the blog post and I was then hired to photograph the majority of senior leadership for a campaign they were doing. BAM! A low paying magazine job turned into a large, well paying, two day commercial shoot. From a blog post. That stuff has happened to me so many times. A year later I shared a flight with a VP from Coca Cola I had photographed on that two day shoot and she still remembered me and that turned into another job. Just last month (August 2016) I shot a full day shoot for TV personalities because I pitched them an idea on a separate shoot and did an IG takeover that got some traction and proved my worth. I take one opportunity and will spin it to the next. That is how you fucking stay alive as a photographer in this day and age.

But Zack! The photo industry is dead! Instagram! That Beckham kid! Run for the hills!

Screw all that. I’m still alive. Through all my crap. All my failures. All my depressive episodes. All my bad decisions. I. Am. Still. Alive. Listen… You’ve been fooled. I’m an idiot. You bought a book written by an idiot. But if I can do it? You can do it. It’s hard as hell but it can be done.
