Scored Your First Interview? Congratulations— Now Keep Moving Forward!

The first interview you earn by direct-calling a hiring manager will be one of the sweetest moments of your life. However, if that success comes before the final day of your fifteen-day campaign, keep making your calls. Getting one interview is outstanding, but it’s even better to get two, three, or even more. Each interview you get puts you in a better bargaining position, and there’s a good chance that the second or third firm that invites you for an interview will make a far better offer than the first.

Moreover, in today’s business climate, an interview is no guarantee of a job. Companies often interview dozens of candidates for each job, so there are no sure bets and it’s smart to line up as many opportunities as you can.

When you follow your campaign through to its conclusion, you’ll often get a bonus in the form of additional calls that come in well after you’ve finished your campaign. These contacts could be extremely valuable, either during this job hunt or in the future. So no matter how many interviews you line up, stick to your goals and additional rewards will follow. In today’s volatile job market, you can’t have too many good contacts.

When you complete your fifteen-day action plan and land your interviews, you’ll be a giant step closer to getting a new or better job. But getting those crucial interviews, while it’s the hardest step, isn’t the final one. Even when you get a foot in the door, you’ll still be competing with a host of people who are just as hungry for a new opportunity as you are. The next chapter will show you how to maximize the chances that when you go for that hard-earned interview, you’ll be the candidate who gets the offer.
