Deception Spreads

As I have mentioned, I have a number of friendships with individuals who profess to be practicing gay Christians. Some of them are involved in different areas of ministry. On one occasion, while I was traveling and ministering, I got a text message from a gay minister who saw that I would be in his area. He invited me to come to their service after I was done ministering that morning. I accepted his invitation and brought a pastor friend with me to the service. They were a self-proclaimed Spirit-filled gay church. I was very curious to see what their service was like.

We walked in and worship started. I lifted my hands and worshiped God like I would anywhere else. As I worshiped I felt the presence of God. This surprised me! I asked the Lord, “Why do I feel your presence in a gay church?” I heard the Lord whisper to me, “You will always feel my presence when you worship me.” I continued to worship as the pastor started exhorting. He used a prayer language and spoke in tongues. He did it very dramatically, in a way that didn’t fit with the flow and tone of the service. It was just weird. I got the idea he might be trying to show me, “Look, we are gay and Spirit-filled, too!”

I was confused. I asked the Lord, “How is he speaking in tongues?” I heard the Lord say to my spirit, “It’s the same deceiving spirit that works in false prophecy.” The clarification helped me process the moment. Then the thought came to me that God never took Satan’s gifts from him when He removed him from heaven. And then Romans 11:29 came to mind, “for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable” (without repentance). Someone can receive a spiritual gift from God and still walk away from Him and into deception. The service continued (as well as the unbiblical behavior).

At one point, a lady stood up and gave a prophetic word in tongues that was very generic and only served to interrupt the service. Now, I’m a prophetic minister, so operating in the spiritual gifts in order is very important to me. After her prophetic word in tongues, she then interpreted it. Paul gave us instructions that we need to have order in prophetic ministry. First Corinthians 14:27 says, “If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.” This was another indication that not only had this ministry been deceived on sexuality, but also spirituality. Deception will bleed over into every area of your life, not just your sexuality.
