“You think I’m dangerous,” She told Anatole, whipping her head in his direction. “And you. I have no idea what you’re thinking,” She said to Ambrose. It was like trying to feel through a wall. There were feelings there, she could sense them, she just couldn’t get through to them.

“I’m happy you woke up and worried about what your combined gifts will mean,” He admitted. She sensed he was telling the truth, but she couldn’t be positive without a good read.

Amelia groaned, forcing her eyes to stay open, to try and adjust to the light. “Ugh, the light is still too bright, but I think my eyes are getting used to it. Maybe,” She said.

Roan leaned in, “Let me see,” He said softly.

“They’re changing. The longer you keep them open, the darker your irises are becoming. It’s a similar reaction for the eyes to light, as it is for your skin to the sun.

Fascinating,” He mused. “The longer you keep them open, the less sensitive they should become. Are you still hungry?” He asked.

“Yes, kind of. Not like before. I can wait,” She said, swinging her legs around and putting them on the ground.

“Whoa,” She said as the room spun for a moment.

“Slowly,” Ambrose said.

She held her head in her hands for a moment, opening her eyes and forcing them to focus on the tip of her boot, trying to stop the spinning.

“Roan, would you mind staying with Amelia, while Ambrose and I have a word?” Anatole asked.

“No, not at all,” Roan replied happily.

He sat quietly with her on the cot as the two Elders exited the tent. “They’re worried,” Amelia said softly.

“They’re just trying to make sense of what’s going on.

Someone like you has never been seen before. And I don’t know if you remember the Unbinding. But, let’s just say 111
