I thought I knew Him, after all

I'd walked with Him for years.

I'd heard Him laugh until He cried

I'd seen His human tears.

We'd race each other to the shore

And soak our callused feet.

Miles of road behind us

I'd watch Him fall asleep.

Sure, I saw such miracles

Astounding as they were

In hopes that He was one of us

I'd think what I preferred.

I guess I wanted to believe Him

Less so I could stand

To walk beside Him with my pride

To know Him man to man.
