Darkness-born, suckled on an empty tit,

by a mother who might have been dead.

Her father could be found, teeth in a bit,

steaming in the hall. Caressed her, then fled.

I close the curtains to my room. Fever

shuts my eyes to the world outside. To find

home, a place of calm existence, never

before created in my aching mind.

II.

The child grieves

in her pain,

while time brings

no future gain.

I hug her to me, and we fuse.

Stroke her arms. Speak in a soft tone.

"I'll care for you. Now don't refuse.

Release your fears. You're not alone.
