Where to Find French Subtitles

Obtaining the subtitles and transcripts for specific audio and video materials is not always possible. Yet once they are in your hands, learning straight from the material that you love becomes possible.

Perhaps the most readily available source of French and English subtitles for TV shows and movies can be found on Netflix (https://www.netflix.com). The former days of desperately hunting down subtitles for days has come to an end, as Netflix offers Closed Captioning (CC) for virtually any French TV show and movie in their library. In order to fully access these French subtitles and even French-dubbed materials, you will need to change Netflix's language settings to French under "Account" and "My Profile".

Searching the internet for "French subtitles" will net you all kinds of interesting ideas to try out. For example, the website Simpsons Park (http://www.simpsonspark.com) offers French transcripts for full episodes of The Simpsons dubbed in French. These can be accessed by finding the web page for the episode that you are interested in watching and then clicking "Voir le script de l'épisode en VF".

If you are looking for something more inspirational and uplifting, TED Talks in French can be found on YouTube as well by searching YouTube for "Ted Talks français".
