Interrupting a stranger in order to ask for directions can be a daunting task, especially if they do not speak the same language as you. Most people will hesitate to ask for help even if they speak the same language as everyone around them. The following is a good way to break the ice when trying to find directions or explain where you want to go. Even though we have learned that tu is a familiar and singular form of "you," it is still polite to use vous when interrupting someone.
