With that, Mr. Smart stormed out of the quiet room, slamming the door behind him. All the children sat down quietly.

“Mr. Smart is so boring,” Nick complained. “He never lets us have any fun!”

“Yeah,” Sam agreed with a sigh. “Never.”

Grunty glanced around the room at the miserable-looking students. It wasn’t fair! They deserved to have some fun.

“Okay!” he said. “Forget drawing! Raise your hand if you want to go exploring instead!”

Grouchy’s hand shot up, followed closely by Nick’s.

“Trollrific!” Julie cried, raising her hand in the air too. Soon, all the students had their hands in the air.

“Okay, then,” Grunty said, opening the door. “Off we go!”

They tiptoed down the hallway, past lots of closed doors. One said, “Ancient Rome” on a mounted plaque. Another read “The Victorians” in fancy letters. Suddenly Grunty stopped.

“Check this out!” he said. He pointed at the sign on the door.
