"An' I managed in some way t'dispose of m'rugs. Some I would mve away an' some I would just sell for almost nothin'. After a while I rot started where I could sell enough t'buy my thread an' my materials. I wove out o' things that were given to me at first so I could afford t'give'em away if I wanted to. I gave away just about till I supplied ever'body with somethin' that I had done.

"Soon I got t'sellin' a little here an' a little there. An' I got advertised by word of mouth. Somebody would see something placed in a home an' they'd come get an order in. There were lots o' friends that were interested in what I wus doin'. It just kind of grew.

"Then th'fellow that writes these articles for the Constitution came an' interviewed us both [Harry and Marinda]. We call this our 'old age hobby.' He gave us a writeup in th'Constitution an'

that just swamped us. About that same time Suzy came along an'

she helped us a whole lot with the Craft Organization that we had in th'county. An' just by degrees we kind of worked up. Now we have t'work hard t'supply th'demand."

Mrs. Brown's craft has brought her some close friends who share her interest. "It's unbelievable how many people you meet. Take for instance in our harvest sales, people will come along an' see that you've done weavin' an' they'll strike up a conversation with you an' tell you that they are interested in that an' they have done some. Then they tell you so many interesting things—the people traveling like that to foreign countries that know a lot about weavin' an' what th'people have done. It surprises you how many people are interested in that kind o' work. I thought when I started this business that this had just about died down. I never had th'opportunity t'meet people that were interested in that type of work.

"An' we've had quite a bit of correspondence with people since this article came out in th'Constitution. People'd write an' say, 'My mother'r my grandmother used t'weave so an' so, can you do that?'

There were lots o' interesting letters."

Weaving seems to be on a give-and-take basis for Mrs. Brown. "It takes a lot of patience. Things that I would start t'do I'd want t'do too quick an' not turn out a good job. Now I take my time in weavin'. It just don't pay t'weave a piece o' material an' throw it away, I found out. Weavin's just so satisfying. If you're interested in what you're do-

>ng, you can just sit down an' ferget everything. I've woven when I wus disturbed. Last week I didn't feel too good. I wus tired but I wus doing something that I wanted t'get done. I kept right at it when I really didn't feel like it an' m'mind wouldn't stay on it. I'd have t'go back an' take some out. I'd put in some that didn't do right.
