34.
It wasnât nearly as difficult to watch them taking their last breath as he had imagined. He had loomed over them, like the shadow of death waiting for them to die. If he needed any consoling, which wasnât very likely, it was that he hadnât physically drained the life from them himself. In his mind, he knew he had never physically taken anyoneâs life. One day, if he should ever have a sudden pang of conscience, he might remind himself of that. Not now! Now, he was savouring the power.
He hid in a dark room at the end of a corridor, caressing his crotch because the excitement of this new power made him hard. It had never been about sex. That didnât mean he couldnât enjoy the moment.
Once again, he reminded himself he hadnât chosen his victims because of any physical attraction. It had helped that they were pretty. That they were pretty and had been attracted to him only made it easier. Once they moved beyond the initial flirtation, he would begin to feel irritable of them and that only made torturing them more pleasurable.
He unzipped his trousers and slipped his hand inside.
The thought of his latest victim was the most delicious yet. Charlie Westmore. He imagined her squirming in agony as worms crawled across her hands and feet, screaming as those little juicy beasts feasted on a hundred tiny blood spots.
Right now, victim three would be experiencing what he once experienced, the horrifying fear of wondering when someone would come and save her. He traced the line of his face with a single finger and blew into the air. In his vision, he caught sight of a tiny clearing in the sky, the speckle of stars twinkling at him and it reminded him why he was doing this in the first place.
He suddenly stopped pleasuring himself, the realisation that she would be watching him from afar, scolding silently from the sky. A momentary crash to earth, the clarity right before ejaculation and he suddenly slapped himself. Anger took over. The anger that drove him and led him to become a killer. He felt overwhelmed, the amazement that he was already more than halfway through his work. Two and a half lives down. Only one more to snatch. All of them innocent in their own little way, all paying the price for something that happened to a little boy a very long time ago.
