Though she had changed majors, Jessica still managed to graduate in 2012 with a forensic anthropology specialist degree and a minor in biology. She then took some time off from school between her undergraduate and her master’s degree.

What important new skills have you acquired through volunteer or work experiences? What did you learn about yourself?

She continued to be involved with the forensic science program through her work as a teaching assistant for the forensic identification courses. The forensic department also created a special role for her as its public outreach administrator.

Teachers contacted Jessica to arrange field trips, lectures, and activities, from DNA extraction to mock crime scene examinations. Jessica liked the teaching aspect of her job and enjoyed meeting students who shared her passion for forensic science.

Jessica was also busy working in an osteological laboratory at the university. In one lab, she worked with the remains of a First Nations people called the Huron-Wendat. Most descendants of the Huron-Wendat now live near Quebec City.
