I’m so bored out here.

Mother and Father won’t let me leave the house. They say I’m not to go into town. They say we aren’t welcome. They say it isn’t safe.

I wish we could go back to the city. At least there I had friends.

At least there I didn’t feel trapped.

I don’t expect my older brothers, Sam and Elijah, to play with me, but even little Theodore has taken to ignoring me. He has made imaginary friends, and he finds them to be better company. It’s just me and Ms. Bear.

I never realized how small a house with so many rooms could feel.
