What Do We Do Now?

Well, it’s like been given your first bike and figuring out what to do with it....ok maybe not that blunt, but now you have a moving, breathing and maybe screaming baby to look after...where do you start?

First things first, remember you are in hospital, expert care is steps away, so try and relax and have a little time to soak it all up and enjoy what you have both created....you have a little family now.

Secondly ask as many questions as you can, even if they sound stupid or obvious, it will reassure you and also get you some good information from the people that know. Also take part in any new born sessions that the hospital may have whilst your still there. We went to a session on bathing your baby; it was good to get some advice and help and also to see the best way to handle Max in the bath.... He was so small (even at 10.5 lbs) I thought I was going to hurt him if I held him too tight or the wrong way.

So the training had begun and boy, do you have lots to learn and absorb.....! However, having the midwives making their visits in hospital really helped.
