Not only will you gain valuable information to use on your website, but you'll discover insights you can apply to your email campaigns and offers as well.
Email and on-site survey resources
There are plenty of online tools out there, from free to paid versions that you can use for both types of surveys.
Here are a few I like to use when sending surveys by email:
SurveyMonkey: They have both a free and a paid version. The free version allows you to collect an unlimited amount of responses but only view one hundred per survey. This amount will not be enough for larger businesses, but if you are just starting or want to send a very targeted survey by email to only a small segment of your list, it's a good option. Paid plans allow you to take advantage of all the ways Survey Monkey makes it easy to analyze your responses. If you're dealing with a lot of complex data, one of their paid plans is the way to go.
Google Forms: They aren't fancy (although there are some templates to choose from with graphics), but they get the job done and are free to use. Plus, Google does an excellent job of allowing you to synthesize the data/answers into a user-friendly spreadsheet form that you can dump right into Google Sheets.
Typeform: This service has by far the most elegant and versatile types of forms. There is a cost to unlock your responses unless you use only their core features. If branding and the style of your forms are important to what you're trying to accomplish, this may be the way to go. It's worth checking out.
