This chunk of code is a bit longer. The goal is to create a list of segments, where the segments are themselves lists of bytes. We accomplish this by going though each byte in the waveform list and appending it to a temporary list. When we encounter a 2 or a 3 (since we’re working directly with binary values, we have to use the weird

b’’ notation), we append the temporary segment to a list of segments and start over accumulating a new segment. The first symbol in this new segment is the preamble marker with 2 subtracted (the fact that we’re working directly in binary values keeps us from simply subtracting two; instead we use a clumsier “if” statement).

For the third bullet point, we need to shorten each segment so it will contain only the bytes in the payload.
