Chapter 15
Sebastian
Rin sagged in Hawk’s arms, passing out, and I collapsed back on the bed. My magical channels burned from yanking all the magic out of Rin and then using it to craft a spell on the fly that ripped out Cassius’s fire. But fuck, it was a second miracle that I was able to connect with Rin through Amiah’s brands, especially since we were only linked through her, we didn’t share part of a brand.
Even though I’d somehow already recovered some of the strength I used to have, I still wouldn’t have had the magical strength to save him if I hadn’t had an easy way to connect with him. And without a doubt, he would have died if I hadn’t pulled all that raw divine magic out of him. Which, even if that wouldn’t have killed Amiah or driven her crazy, was still unacceptable. He was the only reason she was alive.
And he was one of us.
We’d all just been too stupid to see it.
Fate had clearly figured out a long time ago the only way Amiah would survive coming into her full power was if she were near a sin eater, and the only way for that to happen, since Rin was the only sin eater left, was to break Deaglan’s leash spell on him. Which had to be why she’d branded him, since an angelic mating brand was the only way to break a vampire sire’s bond which had been the foundation of Deaglan’s leash spell on Rin.
“If I get my hands on Deaglan, I’m going to kill that asshole. Slowly,” Hawk snarled. “Did you see Rin’s face? He was terrified for throwing up. For throwing up for fuck’s sake!”
“No wonder he always hangs back and never says anything,” Cassius said, staring at his hands with eyes that barely had any angel glow in them. Then his gaze slid to Amiah and my chest squeezed at the heartache in his eyes. This was a moment of reprieve for him, just like I’d intended when I’d ripped out and temporarily blocked his connection with his fire. Except from the look in his eyes, while he wanted to hold her, he was going to take the high road because she was bleeding and burned.
Yeah, well, I had good news for him… so long as he didn’t think too hard about how we got into this mess.
“We should all get in bed with her,” I said. “Preferably naked. She needs as much flesh-to-flesh contact with us as she can get right now.”
“Really, Bane?” Cassius groaned. “If she needs flesh-to-flesh contact then only the two on either side of her need to take our clothes off.”
“Come on, hot stuff. You know he only brought it up so he can see you naked again,” Hawk teased, sliding his gaze over Cassius and letting desire darken his eyes.
But the hurt in Cassius’s eyes deepened and didn’t turn into frustration like it usually did.
Of course, the last time we’d seen him naked —
