A Trusting Manager Who Delegates Well: If you do not trust your team, you should not be managing it. Most of the time, employees don’t have a say in choosing their managers and could land up having one who might not trust them. There is a distinction between trust and blind faith. As a manager you cannot have blind faith in anyone. You should ask the right questions, assess risks, provide timely support to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Trust will help you bond with your team members as they feel their capability is acknowledged and appreciated, their opinions matter, and they are involved in team decisions and activities. Trust takes time to build. A team can do wonders if it is trusted. This in turn leads to empowerment.
If a person is hired for a particular job, respect his suggestions and ideas related to his area of work and any case of disagreement should be dealt amicably. He should not feel that he has been countered frequently due to power play. The more you empower your employees, the more they take their job seriously and deliver with full accountability and responsibility. For some managers delegation is very painful and their teams just end up being pairs of hands and legs that dance to their tunes. Without proper delegation, even an intelligent team can become a puppet and competent team members will be looking for the first opportunity to jump the ship.
