found a barn and fell asleep.
Meeting Mariah

return, George helped her with
her work.

Name Change
When George lived with the Carvers, he
was known as âCarverâs George.â That was
because the Carvers owned him. When
George left the farm, he changed his name
to show that no one owned him. His new
name was George Carver. George picked his
middle name, Washington, years later.
