I will burn like a candle slow, and through the night this is another one

of those full-mooned nights that movies had us believe belonged to the

wolves I hear crickets chirp instead I have said this before do wolves

chirp when they feel sad? you see, psychology tells me I regress in times of

stress whimper like a pup hit by a car roll up on my bed into a cotton

woman touched me and I almost vanished like sterile water—evaporated

into an eternity and then left I don’t know if I ever came back from

that or if I ever will this goer this sinner this doer of

wrong I don’t know what sorcery what crystal ball what divination to

assimilate to return to where I was girlchild-innocent baby-

new pollen-fresh elastic ordinary these days cold touches me

and I condense roll down my own cheek and fall chirp

chirp whimper whimper my psychiatrist tells me, everything is cold

when you can’t feel the warmth. I believe him, then condense and
