BARK RUBBING

A tree is a giant plant, but why is it covered in tough stuff? A tree’s bark is like its fingerprint! Let’s investigate by making bark rubbings.

You will need…

• Notebook

• Pen

• Magnifying glass

• Coin

• Printer size white paper

• Wax crayons

1 Get your tree detective notebook and pen ready! Now, find a tree with textured bark. Note the location of the tree, what type of tree it is (if you know), and the date.

2 Examine the tree’s bark with a magnifying glass. Is anything growing on the bark? Are there any bugs on it? Jot down your findings in your notebook.
