I mean, economically, you know, our parents are not going to want to spend thousands of dollars to protect their little virginous [sic] daughters at this college, you know, if they think they are going to get raped and assaulted.

Another young woman I interviewed had agreed to help a fellow student with a photography project for his communications class. In addition to being a student, the young man was also employed as a security guard for the school. The photo session took place in the library and required a change of clothes. The woman claimed that the young man had set up a camera in the dressing room and was filming his photo subjects as they changed and that she was one of several victims. The young man later “confessed” to the school counselor that he was addicted to pornography. The women were informed that he had taken the photos, but he was not removed from his position, nor was he required to leave the school. The young women claimed that they were never presented with the option of pursuing further action against him and were even discouraged from doing so. The school’s interest in keeping the incident quiet furthered the injury to the victims by contributing to their feelings of powerlessness.
