Chapter 19

Two weeks have past and Ciara has been taking refuge at her parent’s house. After the incident with Marcus, she was too scared to go home. She didn’t want to be by herself so she figured her parent’s house would be the safest place to lay her head. Marcus didn’t have the balls to step foot on her parent’s property, they never liked him anyway.

At the moment, she had her nose stuck deep in her Kindle. Her latest read was Don’t Come Looking for Love by Natavia Stewart. Natavia’s pen game was on point. She was in her room cracking up. Pearl kept barging in on her asking if she was alright. This is what she needed though. She needed something to take her away from her shitty reality. Her stress levels really went up when she found out that Rayna was stuck in jail for a few hours behind a crime she didn’t commit. But she was released once they found out it was a mistaken identity. Hearing Rayna explain what happened didn’t sit too well with her, it sounded fishy. It sounded like somebody tried to set Rayna up but she decided to let it go. She didn’t want Rayna to worry anymore then she already has.

Her thoughts wouldn’t allow her to concentrate on her book so she set her Kindle aside to lay back and reflect on some things. She’d finally gotten away from Marcus but now she’s left with the question . . . Now what? It was time for her to find her own identity. She wasn’t getting any younger so she had to figure out what she wanted to do in life. While deep in thought, her phone chimed. She rolled over and grabbed her phone off the stand. A small smile crept on her face as she read the text message.

Doc: Hey beautiful.

She waited a few minutes before texting back.

Ciara: Hey handsome.

Doc: WYD????

Ciara: Reading. What about you?

Doc: Got you on my mind as usual.

Ciara felt herself blush. They’ve been texting and talking on the phone for the past couple of weeks. He texted her that night she and Rayna ran into Marcus to make sure she made it home safely. She couldn’t thank him enough for intervening and stepping up on her behalf. She had a feeling Clay gave him her number, but she wasn’t complaining. It was good to be able to talk to somebody every now and then, but she was still hesitant. Right now, she wasn’t looking for anything serious, just wanted to ride this wave and see where it takes them.

Ciara: Good things I hope.

Doc: Of course. So, when you gone let me take you out on a date?

Ciara rolled over on her back and placed her phone on her stomach. She knew this was coming, but not so soon. Doc seemed like a nice guy but she wasn’t trying to rush into anything. Her past was sticky and she didn’t want to jump in head first only for him to look at her sideways later.
