Screws
On English high-quality watches it is common to find screws marked with punched dots, which correspond with dots marked next to the screw position. The reason for this was that most screws on English watches were handmade and, therefore, it was important to make sure that they were fitted in the correct location.
Tightening Screws
It is very important that you do not over-tighten any screw. When tightening a screw, stop as soon as you feel resistance. If you apply more force after this point, you run the risk of damaging the screw, the threaded hole into which the screw is fitted or your screwdriver; you will also annoy any future watchmaker who has to work on the watch.
