In order to execute the code in Listing 8.14, create an empty project (for each board separately); configure the PB11 and PB10 pins as I2C2_SDA and I2C2_SCL, respectively. Also, set pins PC9 and PA8 as I2C3_SDA and I2C3_SCL, respectively. Afterward, enable the I2C mode of I2C2 and I2C3 modules. Set the I2C speed mode to standard, frequency to 100 kHz, and slave address to 80 (0x50). As the project is compiled and run, counter values will be transmitted from the master to slave and slave to master, and LEDs will toggle accordingly.

The second example, with the C code given in Listing 8.15, repeats the first example given in Listing 8.14 in non-blocking mode. When the transmission and reception is complete, the LEDs are toggled in callback functions. The pin PA0, the onboard push button on the STM32F4 board (working as master) is connected to, is configured in interrupt mode. It triggers the transmission when pressed. In order to execute the code, replace the “main.c” file with code given in Listing 8.15 for both projects (for the master and slave boards). Do not forget to enable I2C interrupts. As the projects are compiled and run, the counter values will be transmitted from the master to slave and slave to master, and LEDs will toggle when the onboard push button on the STM32F4 board (working as master) is pressed.
