CHAPTER 4

Tom couldn’t keep his hands off Michelle’s body. After years of dreaming about making love to her, having her here, in his bed, had driven every ounce of self control from his soul. She lay beneath him, her soft, supple curves more tempting than he’d ever imagined. He lifted himself on an elbow and ran his tongue down through the narrow depression between her plump breasts. He tasted sweat and the faint lingering flavor of her perfume. The scent was intoxicating. Heat curled in the pit of his stomach and his softening cock responded instantly with a jolt.

Michelle ran a hand through his hair. “We need to talk.”

“Uh huh,” he acknowledged, circling a nipple with the tip of his tongue. He watched in fascination as the dark bud stiffened beneath his caress.. Clamping his mouth around the hard peak, he sucked deeply. Michelle groaned and arched her back. “No, really, Tom. We have to talk.”

He grunted, warily acknowledging the determination he heard in her voice, but he wasn’t ready yet for that conversation. Reluctantly, he released her nipple. It slid out of his mouth, and it took every ounce of determination he still possessed to keep him from nipping it between his teeth.

“Don’t move,” he said as he rose from the bed. “I’ll be right back.”

“Tom!”

He stopped in the doorway and turned back, his heart skipping a beat as his gaze settled on her silhouette. Michelle. In his bed. He still couldn’t get over it.

“One second,” he promised before slipping into the hallway. “I’m not going far.”

An icy chill slithered into the apartment through the open window. He paused to close it, then strode into the kitchen and yanked open the refrigerator door. For the second time, his attention lingered on the box with the cookie and those two enticing words scrawled in black marker. Knowing he couldn’t postpone the inevitable forever, but wanting to live in the moment for just a little longer, Tom reached past the pastry container and grabbed a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries. When he returned to the bedroom, he was glad, if a little surprised, to notice Michelle had done just as he’d instructed and hadn’t moved from the bed. He’d half feared he’d walk in to find her getting dressed. Grinning, he climbed in beside her and placed the bowl on a pillow. Her expression masked by shadows, she looked at him through her mass of golden hair. Then she ran her fingertips down his cheek, the gesture both familiar and arousing. “Where did you go?”

“I thought you might be hungry.” He picked a juicy strawberry and trailed the chocolatey tip over her lips.

Michelle opened her mouth eagerly and he slid the fruit inside. Her tongue flicked across his fingertip. “Mmmm…good,” she murmured. Tom’s pulse thundered. How could she be so sexy, so naughty, and 29
