15 – Tea Cakes

This recipe originally came from Lithuania. It’s a Christmas-time favorite for my family and friends, and it may be for yours, too.

Makes 3 dozen cakes

Cooking + Prep Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

1 cup of butter, unsalted

1 tsp. of vanilla extract, pure

6 tbsp. of sugar, powdered

2 cups of flour, all-purpose

1 cup of walnuts, chopped

For decorating: 1/3 cup of sugar, powdered

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350F.

2. In medium mixing bowl, cream the vanilla and butter till smooth. Combine 6 tbsp. powdered sugar with flour. Stir this into butter mixture till barely blended.

3. Add chopped walnuts and mix. Roll the dough in one-inch balls. Place them on ungreased baking sheet with two inches between them.

4. Bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes. Remove and allow to cool. Roll in the rest of powdered sugar once or twice. Serve.
