As I absorbed the bodies of the Kingsguard who’d been stupid enough to attack me, the levels came to me. It wasn’t terribly surprising—I’d been on the verge of increasing my Dungeon Core to level 8, anyway.

What was surprising was the fact that my [Healer] class had also leveled up. I’d thought that I could only gain levels in that through healing, but I supposed sufficient violence also worked?

Well, I wasn’t going to question it too much. Leveling up through violence was the way of the world here.

“You… what was that?” Lisa asked. She hadn’t even taken out her sword. “None of the dungeons I’ve been in have ever done that.”

“Well, none of the dungeons you’ve been in had me to control it,” I said.

“That was incredible,” Lisa said. “The dungeon surely wasn’t this strong during the last incursion.”

“It wasn’t,” I said.

The attackers had been strong, that was for sure. They were less strong than the last group—most groups would be weaker than those since the last group had included two people above level 25—but they’d still been decently powerful. Level… 16 average, maybe?

I’d obliterated them. My items had finally gotten the chance to come out for the first time in a while. The [Mirror of Echoes] had proven to be useful to tank several hits—it’d been a bit disconcerting to see duplicates of myself disintegrate under the combined weight of a dozen attacks, but better the mana-built fakes than me—while the sudden appearance and activation of the magic-removing [Void Sphere] had been crucial in my final strategy.

It was elementary, really. They hadn’t had a plan to deal with their magic suddenly failing them, so I’d had a [Displacer] swap straight into the midst of their six-man invasion squad with the [Void Sphere]. While they were still reeling from the shock of their spells failing, I’d sent more monsters at them, mirroring the attacks they’d been sending at me first, and then I collapsed the roof on them.

The fight had ended within two minutes of it starting, and I hadn’t even had to leave the safety of this room with Lisa. Evidently, the Kingsguard didn’t have strong enough manasight to determine which parts of me were dungeon and which weren’t because they hadn’t noticed that they were treading on dungeon ground before they’d gotten in here.

They had never stood a chance.

Well, one guy had. The [Ranger] who’d turned out to be a [Skinstealer]—I hadn’t even known that there were skills that could hide your class—had gone down during the collapse just like the rest of them, but while I’d been pondering whether I should try to arrest them and treat them with the same gentle non-lethal methods as the more reasonable Kingsguard, he’d gotten back up, shedding his facade and activating a spell that I was fairly sure would’ve resulted in him piloting my body.

Obviously, I couldn’t let that pass, so I’d killed him with his own spell, stealing control over his body with a [Steel Mirror Beast] for long enough to drive him into the clutches of a [Skeleton Dragon].
