An Invitation to Examine a Quarter Turn

•In your journal, explore a quarter turn that you have encountered.

•First, describe an experience, event, or relationship that changed your way of seeing an important issue or problem. This is the trigger or catalyst of seeing differently.

•Next, describe how your lens of perception shifted regarding the problem because of this trigger or catalyst. This is the actual shift in seeing that occurred in you.

•Finally, describe how this new seeing enlarged who you are and how you see the world. What did the shift in seeing lead you to?

•Go back and highlight one phrase or line in each of your writings: one for the trigger or catalyst of seeing, one for the shift in seeing that occurred, and one for how your vision enlarged. This is your quarter-turn haiku.

•In conversation with a friend or loved one, discuss your personal quarter turn, describing the trigger or initial catalyst, the actual shift in perception that took place, and how your vision or understanding has enlarged. Then read your quarter-turn haiku.
