Carson tasted vanilla and Drew, and he was suddenly ravenous in his need to taste every flavor he could get from Drew’s mouth. He flicked his tongue against Drew’s, his body on fire. Drew’s tongue curled against his, body moving in closer. Small hands came up to cup his cheeks again, thumbs caressing his beard.

Want and need rushed through Carson and he tugged the man to him, feeling the taut, slim body against his, running his hand down Drew’s back to cradle him close. Oh, he felt good against him, warm and alive. Drew’s arms came around his neck, his head tilted, and he met Carson’s hunger with more of his own.

Fuck.

The burn of desire had his dick hard and aching. He reached under Drew’s arms and hauled him up onto the counter, standing between his legs and deepening the kiss.

A clatter outside of the kitchen brought Carson back to reality. He pulled his mouth away, Drew’s breath hot on his wet lips as he stared at him. The man looked back, eyes heavy-lidded, his desire stamped on his face in the bright color in his cheeks.

He shouldn’t have done that. Shouldn’t have let his desire get control of the situation. He liked this job, and a messy situation here would just devastate him. He stepped back from Drew and worked to pull his body back under control.

“Wow,” Drew whispered. “Can we do that again?”

Carson shook his head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

Green eyes went wide. “But you felt that, too, didn’t you? What it’s like between us? Why do you want to ignore it?”

“Because it’s not a good idea.”

“But why? You say you’re not interested in me that way, but what just happened proved the exact opposite. You do want me.”

“Doesn’t matter if I do.” He ran his hand through his hair and sighed. “Look, Drew. I’m sorry, but I’m just not into starting up something right now.”

Drew’s face clouded, and he jumped down from the counter. “You are one infuriating, stubborn man, do you know that? Not to mention hot and cold. Don’t say you didn’t start this with the scone.” He paced away and turned back. “I know you think I have all this experience and yeah, I do have some. And you know what? I have enough to know that kissing doesn’t usually feel like that. You’re crazy for not wanting more.”

“Well, I don’t. I’m not trying to hurt your feelings here—”

“Fuck my feelings, I’m surprised, okay?” He sighed, his shoulders slumping. “And maybe yeah, disappointed. I don’t know what you’re so afraid of. I won’t hurt you.”

The soft words speared into his heart. “But you could hurt me.”

Drew met his gaze, his own sad as he nodded. “Okay, I’ll back off. For now. One thing you should probably know about me though? I’m stubborn as hell and when I know something’s good, I’m smart enough to explore it. I want you in my bed, Carson Mills.”

God, the thought of being in the man’s bed made Carson break out into a sweat.
