Chapter Fourteen

Kyra woke up around noon. She was pretty nervous. Today was the last day of practice before the performance tomorrow night. She took a shower and dressed in jean shorts and a top. After eating breakfast that Margaret prepared, she played with the dogs for a while. Then Drake came to pick her up. She was still a little nervous about being alone with him. She hoped that all would go well. If it didn’t she would still call Reina for help.

They sang the song five times then they took a break.

“Nervous?” Drake asked.

“A little. It’s not every day that you meet royals.”

“No. It’s not. I remember when I met them for the first time. I was terrified.”

“What happened?” Kyra was curious.

“I was with Reina for a week when she introduced me to Sky and Nick. They were really friendly. They showed me some video games. They tried really hard not to scare me, but I just kept waiting for them to do something to me. I didn’t say a word to them the entire time. I barely even spoke to Reina.”

“Did it last long?”

“Yes. Until one day when I heard Sky sing and Nick was playing on the drums. I was fascinated. The music called to me. I just sat there and listened to them. Then Nick showed me how to play on drums. I think that was the first time I actually smiled. And Sky taught me how to sing. He still claims that I’m a better singer that he is.”

“You’re a great singer. I often wondered how come you’re not the front man.”

“It’s because I don’t like being the center of attention. I don’t like talking to people. Especially in public. But I am a backup singer. It suits me.”

“So when did you meet the rest of the family?”

“Probably a month after I went to stay with Reina. She didn’t want to overwhelm me. But they were really nice to me. Especially Aurora. She was excited about having a new grandchild. But I was afraid and she didn’t push me. She was very patient with me.”

“How many grandchildren does she have?”

“Including me? Four. Sky and Nick because Reina is their maker. Then there’s Jade. And me.”

“Jade is a royal?”

“You know nothing about the family do you?”

“No. I’m afraid I’ll make a huge mistake and embarrass someone.”

“Then let me enlighten you. Let me tell you a little of vampire history.”

“Okay,” Kyra said excitedly.

“Aurora was one of the first vampires created. She was handpicked by Orion to lead the vampires. To be their queen. That was over five thousand years ago. Then she met her first two mates or husbands. Alexander and Christian. They were also one of the first vampires created. In those days vampires could still walk around in the sun, but they couldn’t have children. And Aurora really wanted to have a child. Orion heard her prayers and decided to grant them. She could have a child, but only with him. Alexander and Christian knew how much Aurora wished for a child and they agreed.
