Henry

I walk into my office at GenSec, turning on the lights, illuminating the space I seldom frequent. Most of my time is spent at our training facilities, on the occasional job, or working from home. I guess that’s why I’ve spent little time making this office look more than generic, with a simple desk and two armchairs for the rare visitor. Oh, and a sofa for when I get bored and need a nap.

I sit behind my desk and begin sorting through mail and other memos left since I was here last, knowing anything important has already been brought to my attention. Tossing the mail back on the desk, I lean back in the chair and scrub my hands down my face, attempting to wipe the exhaustion away.

Three days. It’s been three days since I got back to New York with Trouble in tow, and I already feel like I’m losing my mind.

She’s still pissed. It seems good sex wasn’t the magic cure to her mood. Pretty sure it made it worse. Every time.

Guess I can pat myself on the back for that since I’m the one who pushed and crossed lines that were better left uncrossed. The word I’m looking for is stupid. I was stupid for fucking her, not once, not twice, but three times in twenty-four hours. Okay, maybe a little more than that, but I doubt the timeframe is the point. Have no damn clue what I was thinking because she’s avoided the hell out of me since–when she’s not looking at me like she wants to filet me, that is.

The door opens, and long legs in a tight skirt cross the threshold. “You look like shit.” I meet her blue eyes and lift a brow. She shrugs her shoulder and grins. “What? It’s true.”

“Did you need something, Margo?”

“You didn’t call me the other night after the show?”

I roll my eyes, and an irritated noise in the back of my throat escapes. “You mean the night I told you I wouldn’t.” She’s always coming on to me, and if she weren’t my assistant, I would’ve been on that months ago. But I don’t have time for sexual harassment suits.

“Come on, Henry. Once won’t hurt. Just to see if there’s anything there.” Her fingers wave between us. “Besides, you look like you could use the stress relief.” I follow her tongue as she runs it across her pink lips, unsurprised it does nothing for me. Just because I would’ve been on it doesn’t mean I actually feel anything for her. Sue me.

“Not happening. One, you work for me. Two, in case you have forgotten since I told you the other day, my life has gotten a little more complicated. I have more than me to think about.”

“I’m asking for sex, not a proposal.” Her hands sit on her hip as her short hair brushes her shoulders in some attitude-filled teenage drama queen move. “Besides, I love kids.”

“Somehow, I doubt that.” The woman has looked at Lyra like she is gum on her Louboutins.
