As soon as he was out the door Laura made a mad dash for the kitchen. After a few minutes she’d accumulated a small collection of possible cooking ingredients. Then she quickly went through some recipes in a drawer. Nothing matched up with what she had. Everything called for eggs or brown sugar and she had neither. She had flour, salt, course and granulated sugar, a small amount of margarine, cocoa, one liter of milk that she preferred not to use, honey, and peanut butter. Feeling a bit lost as to what to do, she debated on calling him up and asking him if he’d like a bowl of dry cocoa puffs instead. She’d eaten them dry many of times and enjoyed them more than most cookies on the market today.

Maybe she could whip up a cocoa puff cookie with little ingredients. It was a stretch but she fired up her laptop and did an internet search. The search welded almost two-hundred forty thousand results. She went into image mode to help her choose the most appealing one and scanned the list of ingredients. She was missing the white syrup. She quickly searched up white syrup alternatives, and came up with a recipe to make your own.

According to the clock she’d already wasted 22 minutes, and the recipe said the cookies could take awhile to firm. She couldn’t waste too much more time. She wished she’d asked Deputy Kim when he’d be over, but that would have made her seem too eager?

The white syrup recipe called for cream of tarter, which she didn’t have. Another quick search and she learned that vinegar in the right ratio could act as a stand in. A bit leery she made the substitutes and thirty minutes later was putting a lined cookie sheet filled with cocoa puff cookies in the refrigerator to firm.

She already knew the quick-fix remedy for scratches on hardwood floor, so she pulled a bottle of olive oil and a wash cloth from the cupboard and went to the living room, pausing at the step to call for Rufus.

He was still in hiding, but Laura suspected he’d get hungry real soon, and be forced to lay their differences aside.

She went to her knees in front of the scratch and set to work at it. Within minutes the floor glistened, and only someone looking for the scratch would actually see it. What else needed to be done? She twirled on her heels to look around. The fire was nearly extinguished but with a little coaxing and the three remaining logs it was soon burning again. Its soft glow illuminating the room, the soft crackling sounds filled the air. She would definitely need more logs.

Pulling the curtain back again she looked out at the shed. This had to be done. Either that or get Jarvis to come to the shed with her, but once he got here she wanted no interruptions, and did she really want to come off as high maintenance? She needed everything perfect.
