MATERIALS

Paper and pencil or copies of the patterns

12-inch felt squares: 4 in flesh tone, 1 in hair color, and additional squares for clothing

Scissors

Needle and embroidery thread

Sewing pins

Sewing thread to match fleshtoned felt

Stuffing

Fabric glue (optional)

Sew-on snap

Using the patterns here, cut out two head pieces, front and back, from a felt square. Use three strands of embroidery thread to stitch the eyes, mouth, nose, and brows on one of the head pieces. Pin the pieces together. Use sewing thread to sew blanket stitches around the edges, leaving about 2 inches open at the neck.

Fold another felt square and lay the body pattern along the folded edge. Cut out two bodies. Pin them together and sew a blanket stitch all around the outside edges. Leave the neck open. Stuff the arms and legs, then sew a line of running stitches across the hip and shoulder. This will allow the doll to move its arms and legs.

Stuff the torso and neck firmly. Stuff the head firmly and pin it onto the neck, tucking the edges inside to hide them.

Sew the head to the neck with a ladder stitch, going around twice so it is firmly attached.
