Dale sank back in the chair, relieved at last to have learned that Scout had arrived safely at Fort Robinson and was now in the process of basic training. As he laid the letter on the table, he noticed writing on the back of the typewritten letter. It read:

Dear Dale,

My name is Artie Klimza. I am assigned to work with Scout as his handler. I read the note that Scout brought with him, and I promise you that Scout will be properly taken care of. He is a fine animal, and you should be very proud of him.
