Honestly, who the fuck would ever believe that a stupid, simple game of truth or dare could go on for three hours?!

Apparently, with this many players, each round took an age to complete. Plus, at first there had been a lot of arguing whether we could give points to answers given to a ‘Truth’ as there was no way of proving that the person was in fact telling the truth.

Fuck me. This had actually seemed like a fun idea when I’d suggested it. Oh, how naïve young Skylar was.

‘Truth or dare?’ Ophelia slurred, facing Clover.

‘Truth,’ Clo responded lightning fast. The alcohol had made her brave. For the past few rounds, she’d opted for a dare and had failed miserably, so was now rather drunk on the energy drink and vodka she’d been consuming. I’d been trying to drink as little as I could in order to keep my faculties intact.

Leo chuckled next to me, the glimmer of the flames matching the glint of evil in his eyes.

‘Are you jealous of Stutter?’ Leo asked. Clover bristled, her dislike of Leo clear. Griff’s face darkened too, pissed that Leo would ask her that.

‘Nope,’ she replied, ‘if anything I feel sorry for her.’

I flinched at her venom. Gee, Clo, ta muchly.

‘Sorry for her?’ Leo asked sardonically. ‘Expect us to believe that, Red?’

‘Expect you to believe the truth? Yes.’ Her statement came out pretty clear, except for the slight slur on the end that changed the meaning.

‘You need to drink!’ Oralie called out, giddy. Her icy blonde hair had got stuck to her lip gloss, and it had taken a lot of willpower to not stand up and yank it off for her. Both she and Ophelia had blatantly decided the only way they could get through the evening was by getting wasted.

Alongside Leo and I, Ollie was the only other person who hadn’t touched their drink much. Of course Oliver wouldn’t be drinking. He needed control at all times. Power was more effective when sober, after all.

‘Why?’ Clo snapped. ‘I didn’t lie.’

Oralie hiccuped, and said in a snooty tone, ‘Duh. I meant Leo.’

‘Oh.’ Clover looked thoroughly schooled and I couldn’t help but laugh. The entire scenario I’d found myself in killed me a little inside. What even was life?

‘Truth or dare?’ Clo asked me, her eyes narrowed.

‘Truth,’ I replied, feeling pretty confident that Clo wouldn’t come for me too hard. Although, I had just laughed at her, maybe I shouldn’t be quite so cocky.

‘How do you really feel about Leo?’ she asked, triumphant. In my peripheral, I saw Ollie sit up a little straighter, interested in my answer. I didn’t even have to think twice about it.

‘I like him,’ I said with a shrug. Everybody knew that to pass a lie detector you had to answer as close to the truth as you could. ‘And let’s be honest, the boys fucking hot.’

I meant for my last sentence to be kept in the dark, in the back recesses of my brain, but clearly I had drunk just enough for it to be let loose.
