A C-47, piloted by Captain Bourgereau, took off from Dien Bien Phu with 19 wounded aboard.

This was the last such flight to depart Dien Bien Phu successfully. Several other C-47s had already been shot down en route in or out or destroyed on the airstrip. Subsequently some further flights did land, but none took off; their surviving crew members joined the garrison. One such crew member was French air force nurse Lieutenant Geneviève de Galard-Terraube, who then served with distinction at the main hospital until the end of the battle and was later accorded the title ‘Angel of Dien Bien Phu’ by the media of the time.
