Sinead O’Malley was the most confounding, annoying, frustrating, intriguing, compelling woman he’d ever come across. No one else had affected him the way she did.

For the remainder of their flight, she’d ignored him, responding politely to questions, and offering Angus small smiles in contrast to the ones she’d given him at the beginning of the journey.

Now that they were in his sports utility vehicle on their way to Quinn Manor, waves of Sinead’s hostility crashed across the passenger compartment and into him. Even though she faced forward, staring through the windscreen without speaking, she hadn’t insisted on returning to America. Nor had she removed the plug from her arse.

Wasn’t that the dichotomy?

From before the moment they met, there’d been animosity, physical as well as verbal. It took the barest spark to ignite it and consume both of them.

Hours ago, when she’d flung insults with the ferocity of arrows, it had taken every bit of self-control not to snap, drag her from her seat, and kiss her so fucking hard, making sure she couldn’t use that beautiful mouth against him.

Truth was, he’d been transparent when he told her the dossier revealed nothing of who she was. Sure he’d noticed she was attractive. But he’d not known that her pheromones would drag him under her spell.

A month ago, he’d have said he didn’t believe in anything fanciful. Today? He wasn’t as certain. Sinead had bewitched him. There was no doubting that.

Last night, he could have fucked her in her hotel room. But her orgasms and his enforced wait had made today’s sex all the better for it.

He recognized that her earlier anger stemmed from hurt. And he hated that he’d been at least somewhat to blame. But the spitfire had infuriated him with her wild accusations. Perhaps she was embarrassed by her reactions to his dominance or her perfect surrender. But in time she’d realize there was no need for that. Between consenting adults, sex was a wondrous thing, nothing to be ashamed of. And a scene like they’d shared, with honesty and emotional interaction in addition to the physical aspects, didn’t often happen.

If he had his way, they’d continue to explore that path, deepening their connection, long into the future.

He turned off the main road and continued several kilometers before braking to a stop in front of the manor’s iron gates, then lowered the window and punched in the numeric code for admittance. From his spot behind the steering wheel, he glanced over at her.

She was now facing out the passenger window, as far away from him as the car’s interior allowed. Her silence bothered him more than her mouthiness. He wasn’t sure how to reach her.

Tomorrow, after they’d had good rest, perhaps she’d hear him out. Or least give him something to argue with. “Welcome home.”

“To Ireland, aye,” she allowed, finally looking at him. “But Quinn Manor is your home. Not mine. Never mine. And you’ll do well to remember that.”

She was back, and he was somewhat relieved. “Does everything have to be a fight, a rún? Everything?”

The gates swung wide, and he drove through.
