A tendril of blonde hair had escaped her braids, as if on purpose, knowing that if it escaped the haphazard mess of her effortless tangle and curled around her lips, all the men in the room would swoon.

I glanced at my brethren and they were all enraptured. Onyx was even taken by her. He was trying to hide it, but I knew my brother too well: those mysterious dimples of his quivered, even as his face fought to maintain his disapproving frown.

There was just something powerful about Giselle tonight.

Naomi and Giselle were playing darts as the four of us sat at a nearby table in l’Ancien bar, sipping on our beers, waiting to see what might play out. We had been careful to not appear all four together out in the town up to this point, but now that the locals were amping up their efforts to be rid of us, I had decided it was best for us to just throw all our cards on the table.

Well, all the cards that these insignificants could see.

We weren’t armed, after all.

Giselle walked to the dart board, her hips swaying, the supple curve of her ass revealed beneath her tight jeans, the outline of her car keys pressed in the back pocket. I lifted the beer glass for another drink but didn’t taste the beer.

When she told me to protect Kyan.

A chair scraped to my left as someone moved a vacant chair to scoot by and I glanced over, my fist tightening on my pants beneath the table as the very son of a bitch caught my eye.
