Chapter 16

Roger looked over at Bethany and let out a long-suffering sigh. “You do realize that’s the dumbest reason I’ve ever heard, don’t you? We’ll go back to the Bazaar so that you can make your point. However, you feel dizzy or faint and that’s the end of the day. You understand me?” He made his point by shaking his index finger in front of her nose.

“Watch where you’re aiming that thing, you might get it bit off one day,” she responded. She hated that particular action. She had bitten one of her brothers when he used it.

Roger parked close to the Pavilion so they would not have far to walk after dinner. He took possession of her elbow when they began to wander the Bazaar. Several people stopped them to ask her how she was doing.

“Look, here comes Reverend John. The Methodist Ladies Auxiliary put on this event,” Roger told her as a man with a turned collar approached them. “Good afternoon, Reverend. I’d like you to meet Bethany; she’s staying at the R-M while she conditions her horses.” Roger shook the Reverend’s hand and introduced him to Bethany.

It would be nice to have both of you here tomorrow,” he told her. “Roger knows our service starts at ten.” He smiled back at Bethany, thinking how lovely she was and wondering how long it would be until they needed his services. He had performed both the wedding and the funeral for Roger and Melanie. He would say a special prayer later for the two people in front of him. “I’ll look forward to seeing you tomorrow,” he commented as he moved away into the crowd.

They wandered through the booths, admiring the skills needed to make the items. At the games section of the Bazaar and Roger paid for three balls to dunk the local Fire Chief, who was currently the volunteer in the Dunk Tank. He dunked him two out of three times.

Bethany paid for six darts, threw one, winced and passed the other five to Roger. He then bought twelve more darts and soon handed her a large stuffed dog when he hit sixteen out of the eighteen darts purchased. For that, she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

They paused to watch the medium-sized kids enjoying the beetle race, followed by a puppy prowl where small children had to get their puppies from one end of the field to the other. The pups out ran the younger children, then circled back to pounce on their owners. Each
