Chapter 9

We burst through the door to my room, and I laid her down on the hay mattress. I tried to pull away so I could take my shirt off, but she wouldn’t release me.

Her legs wrapped tight around my waist, and her hands were firmly grasping my shoulders.

My tongue explored her mouth for a few moments more as we laid like that, but it wasn’t enough, and we both needed more.

“Do you want me to take my shirt off or not?” I asked her in a low voice.

With a little giggle and no hesitation, she let go of my shoulders and let her legs fall away from my body. The absence of her on me was motivation enough to take my shirt off as fast as possible so I could regain her touch.

I stood back from the bed, kicked off my boots, unhooked my belt, and then pulled my tunic off.

“There aren’t any old-timey, social laws where we’ll have to be wed if we do this, is there?” I asked as every season of Bridgerton flashed through my mind.

“No, that’s an upper-class thing,” she said. “But I will have to ban you from the tavern if you don’t continue right now.”

“And do you have any way of making it so we… don’t end up with a Squirrel Master junior running around?” I asked.

“The women of this village have been using a herbal remedy for centuries,” she said. “And it has worked like a charm for everyone so far.”

I wasted no time in pressing my body back along the length of hers. Her mouth found mine again, and my hands traveled down her body to find the ties of her leather bodice. I untied it the way I would untie shoelaces, and it seemed to work. The sides parted, and I pulled it off her.

She gasped, and the sound was intoxicating.

“Cole, please, hurry up,” she pleaded.

A part of me wanted to indulge her wish, but the stronger part saw it as an incentive to go slower.

I went back to the kiss and caressed her breasts through the material of her dress, and her hard nipples poked out against my palms.

She tried with desperate force to pull off her own dress, but I grabbed her wrists and held them down.

She bucked her hips and ground herself against the bulge of my erection. Her sounds of desire filled the room, and they were like the most heavenly music.

I kept my hands on her wrists and made my way down her body in a trail of slow, hot kisses.

Kate squirmed and moaned at the heat of each kiss, and she tried harder to use her legs to pull me into her. When my mouth arrived at her belly button, I pushed her legs away from me and finally pulled her dress off.

She laid on the bed in nothing but her boots, and I slid down to the floor where I pulled them off of her, too.

Once her boots were off, I trailed more kisses from her knee to the inside of her thigh, and I let my mouth hover above her wetness.
