Chapter 14

Seeing Lucas and Jememiah, guardians of their family, in a world Daniel never expected to meet them would’ve been a joy in a normal situation—but this wasn’t a normal situation. The dragon shifters weren’t even supposed to be here as they were busy with something else: the task of finding their brother, who was still lost up to this day. Then there was the matter of him finding the two trapping Parker in, even though they wouldn’t have harmed her.

Fighting the conflicting emotions, he didn’t take his eyes off her, wanting to assure himself that she was safe. Unharmed, too, if the lack of bruises and tough look were to go by.

“I was just going to show her my lovely dragon side, Daniel.”

Jememiah Kai’s voice brimmed with humor, which Parker noticed right away. Her brows rose.

“In a forest with trees? Surely you’re not that puny of a dragon?”

The comment startled Jememiah, who blinked before throwing her head back in laughter. Everyone pretty much relaxed after that except for Rax, who Lucas was eyeing suspiciously. But when Lucas met Daniel’s gaze, Daniel shook his head.

“He’s an ally. What are you doing here?”

“I’m tracking down our brother,” Lucas said. “We got trapped here and found you instead. What are you doing here?”

“I’m tracking down my dream woman. She was taken.”

“Or she voluntarily came,” Rax quipped. “No one knows the whole truth yet.”

Everyone stared at him as if he had three heads, but Parker cut through the increasing tension by nodding at the two.

“You’re Nora’s fiancé, aren’t you?”

Lucas’s eyes lit up, changing his whole demeanor. “Yes. Mate, too. This is my sister, Jememiah.”

“And I’m going to punch anyone who calls me that. Call me Jem.”

The two women assessed each other before finally nodding.

“Call me Parker. This is Rax.”

Jememiah smirked. “You were quite adept at hiding up that tree. I didn’t even notice you.”

“That’s because the tree helped,” Parker muttered. “It’s a weird story.”

“And we’re about to be trapped again if we tell that story now,” Rax said cheerfully, pointing at the edge of the forest. “Save it for later.”

They all moved, spotting the opening and racing towards it. Rax got out last, the forest closing again behind him so only the field could be seen. But they all breathed easier, glad to have that over.

“The town’s that way.” Rax pointed again. “Or at least, their version of a town. It’s also a market, a gathering place, and a resting area. A delightful convenience if you ask me.”

Lucas shot Daniel a look, but he shrugged, unperturbed in letting the other demigod lead this time. The dragon shifter always had trust issues with other demigods considering they’d almost been killed by one before, but Daniel’s reaction seemed to assure him this time as they followed Rax. Daniel walked with Parker.

“How did a tree help you?”

“You wouldn’t believe it.”

“Try me.”

“It wrapped around me and sucked me in. I was blind for most of your fight, but I could breathe...” Her hand reached out, touching his arm.
