It’s New Year’s Eve, and I still feel like shit. I didn’t go to the games earlier in the week, but I’m here this afternoon. I’m wearing the jacket Santo gave me, which I might’ve wanted to sleep in but thought I’d mess it up. It made it seem real again for just a minute.

At the moment, I’m just sitting here, trying not to throw up. Sprite is literally my friend, along with an unsalted pretzel. I’ve managed to keep it down and smile when I can see a camera pointed toward me, but it hasn’t been easy.

Since it’s an early game, we’re meeting up at Neal and Sarai’s house to celebrate. Before the party, Sarai, Diana, and I are going to get glammed up over there. We haven’t scheduled our day out together yet, but this will be a mini girls’ time together. The guys have been banished to Seti’s house to get their suits on. We’re doing a total glam night in, even though it will just be our families—minus Soro whose team has an away game tonight.

I just hope I can make it until midnight with as tired and gross as I feel. I tried to bow out, but since I don’t have a fever and it’s just throwing up, everyone insisted I come.

The game goes into overtime—because of course it does when I’m not feeling well and still have to sit and smile. We end up losing in the shootout, and I know Santo and Neal are going to be pissed about missing their shots, while Seti is going to totally chirp them about making his.

“Are you feeling any better, honey?” Dad asks when the arena has mostly cleared out.

Everyone waited for me, so I could take my time leaving. I’m actually feeling like I can go the rest of the night without puking, which I’m going to count as a win.

“I am, actually.”

“I knew it had to be something you ate,” he says.

“Must be.”

Once I’m back at Sarai’s place, I keep seeing her and Diana giving each other looks and then looking at me. After the fifth time in ten minutes, I set down my mascara wand and put my hands on my hips.

“What is going on with the two of you?”

They look at each other again, before Diana speaks. “We were just wondering if you and Santo ever went further than kissing.”

What? Kill me now.

“Why are you wondering that?” I ask, cautiously, because I don’t know where this is coming from.

“Well, you’ve been throwing up all week” Sarai reminds me.

“Oh! No, it’s not that. I had my period last week,” I assure them.

It was lighter than normal, but Aunt Flo definitely paid me a visit. I start laughing, just thinking about what a mess it would be if I was pregnant.

“Okay, good. But…you didn’t answer my question,” Diana reminds me.

“Are you going to tell me about Seti?”

“No! None of this from either of you! Those are my brothers. I just wanted to make sure you weren’t pregnant,” Sarai insists.
