Chapter 38

“You guys go and have fun,” you tell Christine and the other campers. “Just don’t get caught!”

“You’re not coming with us?” Alice asks you sadly.

“1 can’t—that kind of stuff is for campers, not counselors,” you say proudly. “I’ll do some laundry for the cabin instead. Who has stuff they want washed?”

Sofie quickly hands you a heap of clothes. “This much already?” you ask her.

“I wear a couple different outfits a day,” she explains with a toss of her hair. You gather up the rest of the laundry from the girls and head out.

“Remember, don’t get into trouble!” you warn them.

You head over to the laundry room in the dark, hoping not to run into any snakes or spiderwebs. When you get there, the room is empty and all the washers are available. You toss in the clothes and the detergent and start the machine. Then you hear the screen door creak open behind you, and you’re a little startled—you spin around to see… Seth!

“Hey!” he says, obviously happy to see you. “What happened? You never showed up at the lake.”

“Oh, I just…” You fumble for words. “I was so busy with the girls, I couldn’t…”

“Don’t sweat it,” Seth says, casually. “We can hang out now, and do our laundry together.”

You have to smile—he’s so sweet. “I have a real fashionista in my cabin this year; she goes through clothes like crazy. I’ll probably have to do laundry every night,” you joke.

“In that case, I’ll try to be here every night, too,” Seth says, stuffing some muddy boys’ clothes into the washer next to yours.

Suddenly you realize that while you two are flirting in the laundry room, his cabin is about to be covered in toilet paper and soap! Do you stall him in the laundry room and give your campers time to do a really good job, or do you confess to what’s up?
