The underlying default storage account serves as the common storage for all the Jupyter notebooks, files, and R scripts created from all the compute instances in the same workspace and hence makes it easy to share code among team members. Azure File Share account of the workspace is mounted as a drive on compute instance, and all the code lives under “User files” directory, so when a user stops or deletes the compute instance, the notebooks or scripts are safely preserved. The user may want to create temporary files in development process; they can create a directory /tmp for temporary data which will not be accessible to other compute instances. For R users, Azure ML offers RStudio on compute instance or R SDK (in public preview currently) via IDE or notebooks. Figure 4-10 shows how RStudio browser looks on compute instance on Azure portal.
