At Netflix, we “burned” all dependencies into our Docker images and Amazon Machine Images (AMIs) to remove all external dependencies and achieve higher availability. This was absolutely critical during rapid scale-out and failover events.

Data Encryption at Rest and In-Transit

For data at rest, SageMaker supports both AWS and Customer Managed Keys (CMKs) using the Amazon Key Management Service (KMS). This includes data in S3, local instance storage, network-attached EBS storage, and distributed EFS storage. We are encouraged to enable default encryption for all storage volumes and use deny policies to prevent unencrypted uploads.

For data in-transit, SageMaker supports inter-container encryption for all SageMaker infrastructure containers. This includes traffic between distributed training containers in a cluster.
