In the forgotten places where it still grows,

they come with green trash bags and gunnysacks.

No one every sees anything, no one knows

what happens here. They walk down endless rows

of soybeans, out along the railroad tracks,

in the forgotten places. Where it still grows,

the banks own everything now. From windows

in the old farmhouses, no one glances back,

no one ever sees anything. No one knows

who drew the penciled map, or if it shows

the right way. Near woodpiles and hayracks,

in the forgotten places where it still grows,

wagons rust in the tall grass. Nobody mows

the weeds along those roads, or tars the cracks.

No one ever sees anything, no one knows

whose car is parked beside the bridge. SLOW

is the only sign the hunters leave intact

in the forgotten places. Where it still grows,
